2c, 3c & 20c PIECES

The obsolete denominations are underappreciated in today's market.  This could be an opportunity for the astute collector.  Silver three cent pieces are often called "trimes" which makes me believe that nickel three cent pieces should be called "trickels".  Both series have their share of tough dates and varieties, especially the 1852 over inverted date trime and the 1887/6 business strike "trickel" (one for sale below!).

2c PIECES
Image Description Price
1868 2c piece PCGS PR64RB.  We recently acquired this coin, and it is a match for the 1871 2c piece below, with this coin having bright red on both sides!  The coin is nicer than the picture.  Come see one or both of these coins at a show and you will see what I am talking about.  We just posted a better picture of this coin; check it out!        LOWERED PRICE     $2,250 was 2500
Quantity:
1871 2c piece PCGS PR64RB.  The coin is the brightest red 2c piece I have ever seen.  No one who has seen this coin at any show has seen any brown on it anywhere.  Again, the coin is gorgeous bright red on both sides!  It's difficult to believe but the coin is nicer than the picture.  Expensive but well worth it if you want a super coin.   We just posted a better picture of this coin; check it out!        LOWERED PRICE      $2,250 was 2500

3c NICKELS (TRICKELS)   We have the rare 1885 business strike, and the rare business strike variety of the 1887/6.  Wanted:  circulated 1877's.
Image Description Price
1885 3c nickel PCGS XF-45.  The 1885 3c Nickel is available in proof, but is very rare as a business strike.  And why wouldn't it be, with a mintage of just 1,000 pieces?  Many 3c nickels were melted by the government after the denomination was discontinued in 1889, and probably most of the 1885 business strikes suffered this fate.  A guaranteed business strike, certified by PCGS as such.            NEW         $2,950
Quantity:
1886 3c nickel PCGS PR-53.  The 1886 is a proof-only issue, but this coin would fit nicely into a circulated set.  The coin is not as brown as in the picture.           $575
Quantity:
1887/6 3c nickel MS-65 very rare, not the proof die, matches picture and description in Cherrypickers Guide FS-007, although PCGS slabbed it as a PR-65.  Guaranteed to be the FS-007 variety although it is not so stated on the slab. $2,750 was 3000
